Yeah, way too much drama. I can understand being unhappy about an accidental pregnancy, but that's what it was; an accident. I hate it as much as the next person but talking down to these people do not help the situation.

Heh, it's okay, it's late. :)

I feel bad because I think I came off as a jerk, but when I told her the best option was spaying, a bunch of people jumped in my face and were all "oh noez!1 teh poor rattie baybeez!1" and it was...erg...so stupid...I couldn't contain myself. :P Bad me.

I personally don't recommend spaying. In my humble opinion, the spaying would be more stressful then having a litter. Not to mention the fact that spaying a rat is VERY dangerous. I would have recommend her letting her girl have the litter and then contacting any local breeders to try and help them place the babies. People contact me and my friend (a bigger scale breeder) asking us to put their litters on our pages which we will happily do. I don't think you came off as a jerk; assertive maybe ;0)

Spaying a rat is no more dangerous than spaying any other animal. The vet just has to know what he or she is doing.

I always forget I still belong to that. I haven't read anything in it in over a year or so because of all the drama and annoyances it would bring up...it's okay once in a while.

Maybe I'll just take it off my friend's list...I should keep rattielovers on it though, to keep tabs on it since I'm one of the maintainers....I might quit that though..

I don't have any communities on my friend's list except for the rarely updated cam-page one that I belong to. That way I stay away from drama and things like that and only go read them when I feel up to it.

Oh, don't. People deciding to make the whole thing an abortion debate was silly. Your personal input that an emergency spay would've been much harder on the mother rat, instead of giving birth, would've been helpful. I haven't the slightest experience with it, one person on my friends list has had great experiences with spaying ratties, but none while pregnant. If I could raise the money tomorrow, I'd probably consult my vet about it for Wee Jas and Rosemary, sice they're still young and hearty.
I don't know any of these not having dealt with accidental/planned litter myself, which is why I haden't commented on that thread, but anyone who could've given her information about confirming if the rat is pregnant and general pregnant mom care (I know, all it takes is one google search, but the personal response is always appreciated) would've been appreciated by that poster.
Now, my wonder if a couple of those people are going to get baninated as well, or again.

By the time I saw the post it was already a flame war. I didn't want to get sucked into that by mentioning my opinion on emergancy spays.
Heck, I didn't want to comment at all for fear of people backlashing against me. This is a major reason why I hardly post anything but photos over there now; I just don't feel like putting up with crap from the 'animal nazis'. They mean well but...yeah ;p
