Heidi

Heidi is underweight, we need to fatten her up. So we made a feeding schedual. She's on two types of dog food (same brand). One flavor is chicken and beef and the other is duck. In the morning she doesn't eat much, so we will give her one cup of duck flavor. Then around 12noon she'll get one cup of each flavor. Around 4:30-5 she gets another one cup of chicken\beef. Then late at night, before we all settle down, she gets two cups again. This is temporary until she fattens up a little. She should be around 95-100 pounds but she's only 86 pounds. It might take a few weeks.

The rescuer got her from a shelter. Before that she was owned by somebody (who named her Girlfriend!)

Don't forget to becareful when adding food with a dane, Bloat is a awful thing and the smallest change to their diet can cause it.
The Dane breeder I handled/worked for added water to her dogs food and let it set before feeding it she let it expand so it doesn't over expand in their tummys.

there's also fat balls you could make up to help put waight on her breeders sometimes feed them to fatten up a dog for the show, it might help get the waight on her faster and safely? just a idea ^^

We add water to her food anyway :]
Well we aren't sure about this diet yet, we need to run it by our vet.

What are you feeding her, again? I'm telling you... go with something like Nutro, Diamond, Eagle Pack, or Solid Gold. Do you have a picture of her profile that well? She might not be underweight. Some Danes (especially American stock... the non-working kind... are quite lanky compared to their German cousins).

My mom doesn't want to get her any of those foods, since a friend said Natural Balance was ok. I want to feed her Eagle..I might have to buy her food myself if I want her on that stuff.
Well that may be true, she is indeed lanky. I'll try to get a photo of her profile tonight.

Just took a look at the pictures you posted on Great Dane, and she doesn't look one bit underweight. I honestly don't think she needs to put on anymore weight, lest her hips go to Hell and back. You can't see her rips in the pictures or her spine, and she's got a great build on her. I believe you said you were feeding her natural balance. I wouldn't feed her more than 6 cups or so a day. Adult Danes have a much slower metabolism than growing pups.

The vet said she was underweight. If you saw her in person you would see that she was indeed underweight. We only give her six cups, two cups three times a day.

I still don't think she looks underweight. People say that about Gatsby's Mom all the time... and she's a carbon copy of Heidi, aside from being a little bit lighter... and possibly a little bit skinner. I wouldn't bring her over 95 pounds or so, though.

We weren't planning on going above 95. Aren't danes supposed to have even a littl but of mass on their lower abdoman? She has nothing there.

Great Danes are usually skinnier towards that end. Gatsby's Dad is a beefy dog, but is still really tiny right there. It's part of the Great Dane trend of breeding at this moment in time. In America, they're trying to breed them taller, or at least to look taller by making them lanky.
