I contacted the local animal shelters about doing some minor volunteer work. I don't think I have the consitution to do some things but I want to help socialize scared cats and rats (don't have the experience to help scared dogs), I want to foster rats, mice and hamsters (not all the time but once in awhile), and I want to come by every week and take photos of new animals for their sites and for Petfinder and 1-800-Save-A-Pet
In rat news, Fuzz is kinda blah. She has the wuffles (that's what I call the sounds of a minor flareup). I am glad I decided not to breed her since I don't htink she would make it. I decided to change the name of my downunder manx to something else...not sure what it is though. I named my manx from my own litter SKR Tushy (my friend recommened SKR Squishy Tushy but..I don't think so heh)
I took some photos of them to brighten my mood. They are behind the cut. I might breed Fuzz's daughter Diva but only if I can get her weight up. She has been kinda skinny since her litter a few months ago, it's stablized but I want her plump before I even consider it. I am expecting two litters in about a week (if they took). One should be 100% russian blue (though I might get other stuff) and the other should have high whites (can't wait for that one!)
I'm adopting an agouti veriberk blaze from my friend later on...though I might bail on that and just wait for a charcoal black veriberk badger blaze (Hamlet was one). I want to start a line of MC free high whites. I got some high whites from Texas that are mc free and my friend has an mc free rattery. The rattery in Ohio (notice I never use rattery names or first names?) has mc rats. Blames me for having a baby with mc in a litter with his two rats. The father was a high white and the mother (a cousin) was a self. I would NOT have to worry if he was truthful and told me his line has mc (I wouldn't have bred them). It is not my fault! It's because I inbred? Bullshit. Those were cousins and I have bred siblings! I have bred mom to son! In fact, with the litter I have now (harley carriers) I will do be sibling breeding to get harley then outcross right away. Inbreeding isn't wrong if done properly. Bah
That reminds me, somebody on the internet imed me (I have a sneaking suspicion). I am a bad breeder because I breed "plain" rats like agoutis and blacks. I nicely informed them that I knew I would get average looking rats but they carry good genetics, rare genes and good temperament\health. "Mill breeders breed agoutis, I can get one from a pet store!" Yes they do and yes you can but those are most likely not healthy. This litter I have right now might be all agouti and black but they carry harley, dumbo, dwarf, hairless, and RED. They are healthy and nice.
Oh good news though! I have two people that adopted from me twice before adopting two more ratties. Originally they adopted three himis (they were thought to be pews at that point) and then two more boys later on. Two himis have passed on and one is fading. The younger ones are fine and they want "to get more rats from you because they are always so sweet and licky!"
Makes me happy to have regulars :D

They are almost ready to go. They come from Amber and somebody's harley Marietta

Aaaaaw!!!

I'm really quite chuffed with our first ever litter, all the males are soft attention seeking lumps, of the females a couple are a touch flighty when handled but they all come for attention without any problems and the flighty ones seem fine if I handle them on their terms (let them come onto my hand rather than me pick them up first)...

Anyone who doesn't realize that you need to have an occasional litter of black and/or agouti if you are trying to combine recessives hasn't taken the time to do their research, and should not be breeding. For example, if you want platinum, you can breed a blue to a mink. Unless either of them carries other stuff, the first generation will be all black. It's only in the second generation that you'll get blues, minks, and maybe platinums.

She doesn't know her genetics. (She never did...)
