I'm not really fish knowledgable except for the basics of koi, catfish, and goldfish (they are all in our pond).
So amuse me, what is a Plecostomus? By the size you are saying I am thinking Oscar...true?

Large suckermouthed catfish, usually see small ones for sale commonly in most aquarium shops... A decent shop will normally warn people that they grow to very large sizes, but most of the crappy shops just sell them with no mention and don't even tell people how to feed them correctly.

Found this pic on the net:

Ali has one in our main tank, we bought him at about 1.5" and he's now somewhere around 10" and still growing! Need to get a new bigger tank sorted out this year and re-house him..

Ah! We have two catfish but they are flat looking...not at all like that. I don't really know the names but the people told me how big they get (about two feet) and what to feed them.
They live in a 1000 gallon pond, I think they'll manage ;)

When the kids are older I'm going to claim the garden back and landscape the entire thing, there'll be a large pond as the main feature :-)
