Drama-rama

I only mentioned I breed because I didn't want people going "she must be a terrible person if OCCH won't adopt to her" or something like that. I understand where they are coming from, but really, we are not evil people.

ok, maybe I am stupid here, but why won't they adopt to you? What does breeding the ratties have to do with the piggis?? You also rescue... doesn't that count for something?

It's because I "don't really have an idea of the pet over-population. Otherwise I wouldn't breed"
Though I do understand and breed to improve rattie health. They don't adopt to any breeders because of this. But, they said that since I sound like I won't breed the pigs, they could refer me to their private adoptions. So I found a lady a hour away with 4 week old boys :D

I don't see how the ratties are over populated. You never seem to have any left over from the litters. Over population is when there is no demand for the breed which doesn't seem the case with the ratties... or am I wrong about that?

I'm talking about rats in shelters. There's a large number of homeless rats and that is what that rescuer means.

It's not good "policy" to adopt to breeders, simply because there's no way for the rescue organization to guarantee that people are ethical, responsible breeders just because they say they are. Most sensible rescue folks know the difference between "real" breeders and those who would adopt animals from rescues to breed and who aren't breeding responsibly, but when it comes to adoption policy they have to take that stand because there are simply too many idiots out there.

It's ridiculous, but I can see where they're coming from.

Good luck for getting those piggies you're looking at now, though. :3
