GPS?

Do any of you have a GPS? I need one and I'm going to have mom get me one for my b-day. When I say "need", i mean it. It's gotten to the point where I can't see street signs. I'm okay if I'm going someplace I know very well. I got lost on the way home from Indy though. I know how to get home from that area but I missed my turn because it was dark and it threw me off, and couldn't see the signs until I passed the intersection! I can't see signs in the daytime either. If I didn't know my way to the places I go to often, I'd never get anywhere!
I need a GPS with audio capabilities and a fairly large LCD. I'm looking into the Tom Tom but I wanted to ask in case any of you have experience.

I can't find my DVD 10.5. I'm in the mood for disaster flicks. I watched Dante's Peak and volcano today, and I'll watch Deep Impact tomorrow. I can watch The Day After Tomorrow but I want to watch 10.5! :P

We have the Garmin and it works great. Whenever we go out of town, we always use it. Saved my parents marriage trying to find our way around Boston XP

This is the one we have. Garmin nuvi 200. It got my dad around NYC like a charm with absolutely no problems. I haven't used it personally but I plan to take it to Baltimore in August. shadowx9 has it and he uses it all the time and has never had a problem either.

Tom Tom is crap...if you get one I will never speak to you again...Dan and I got a Garmin, we used one in Kauai and I just got one for work...REALLY WORKS GOOD. It talks, has a large screen, real time, connects to a satellite so it knows when there is traffic, etc. Plus you can download software to have different voices...hahaha! :)
Me thinks if you can't see, you need to get better glasses???
I forget what model we have, it's the newest best one. It was $500 but we got it for $200 on sale...WORTH EVERY PENNY...
I have never heard of 10.5, but I assume it's about an earthquake...;)

Yeah, I didn't want to say anything before in case anyone had it and I didn't want to offend but Tom Tom had the biggest return rate back when I worked at Sears. We had a limited stock of GPS systems and they only included Tom Tom and Magellan and if we sold a Tom Tom we were guaranteed to see it back within the week.

Really? That's wacky since my mom said it's high in consumer reports. Ah well, that's why I asked people who actually had GPS. Okay, so Tom Tom is out ;)

Nope, my prescription is correct. It's nothing to do with that, I just can't see signs anymore. The only thing I can do now is sugery...

$500!? My mom is so not going to get that one, I'll look into the cheapter Garmens :)

I looked into Tom Tom at my mom's urging, she says it's high up in the consumer reports. That's why I ask though, better to hear reviews from people! So TT is out.

I would like a British person telling me where to go. Like in that Halloween episode of the Simpsons with the smart house! Pierce Brosnan saying "Turn left on Roberston"...nice

Well what's keeping you from the surgery? I hear it's cheaper nowadays...
No it WAS $500 because it's the best one...we got it for $200...most of them are over $200 so you'll have to spend that much anyway...
Garmins are worth the money if you REALLY can't see the signs and need to get around. I use it for work since I am in emergency situations and I need to get the fastest route to certain locations. Works like a charm. :)
Tom Tom is terrible, honestly...my friend has one and is so mad about it...
You could, I think you need to know where to look though or it costs money...Dan can find it no prob though...;)

Download VZ Navigator on your phone. It's cheaper and works just as well. =P

Yea but then if you get a call it interrupts your map...and I bet her phone doesn't have a cool suction cup thingy for her windshield...and it might not work on her phone...my fiance has Telenav on his phone and he can't stand it...

Ah, I was always wondering how that worked if you got a call or a text, that's lame. I don't have Verizon anymore but they kept trying to get me to try the Navigator thing but I always told them no.

Yea, Dan can go back into it semi-easily, but it's still annoying...I don't know about texts since Dan doesn't have them on his plan (this is a work phone he has the Telenav on)
Yea I think it's just better to get a GPS where that's all it does...;) Plus the Garmins play mp3s! :)
