What the frick!?

Okay, I know some people don't vote. I personally don't like that fact but I do respect it. However, some people have the most inane reasons for not voting! It's one thing to say "I don't like to be involved in politics" or even "this country blows, I'm not getting involved" but it's another thing to say what a family friend said! She just turned 18 in November and registered at the pushing of her father. She won't vote though. Why? "When my grandma dies I'll be well off so I don't need to vote."
BUH!? I basically made that noise so she further said "Why should I vote? I'll be fairly rich and all those bills in the ballet go towards poor and lazy people, oh and Indians." @____@
Okay, first off, I hate the term 'Indian' for Native Americans. If somebody is an Indian, they are from India! Second of all, how fucking selfish can you be to say something like that? If you don't want to vote then don't but don't justify yourself but saying that voting is beneath you! These measures are here to help the people, help the environment, and help our state! She's such a materialistic person but I didn't think she'd be that freaking bad! I have a wonderful friend who is getting jerked around by the government and it's people like this family friend (let's call her R) who make these things worse!

I know I'm more involved then some people, I grew up in a very political house, my father wrote some of the city's ethics laws and he knows some politicians. Our family knows California Representative Henry Waxman and my dad's former boss was former Mayor James Hahn, so I grew up with this. Heck, mom and I are going to try to get to DC in time to see Congress still in session! So yes, I am pretty political but I do understand some people are not and choose to not vote. I don't like it but I can't change your mind and you have the right to choose not to be involve. The girl the girl above however, I have no respect for now, she's a selfish little girl.
UGH!!!

School later today, Math and English. Ew, math.

People are such dummies, even if you do think that taxes only go to "people you don't like" then you should VOTE FOR PEOPLE THAT AGREE YOU! OR VOTE AGAINST THEM! There are lots of nutjobs candidates who think that the income tax/welfare/medicare/medicaid should be abolished and only sales tax going to the military. So while the rest of us vote for people who support public works, she can keep whining about the "Indians" getting all her money.

My favorite I heard, though, when someone was doing polling calls, was "Oh, I don't vote, my husband takes care of that."

That's terrible. People are so ignorant.
I didn't vote in my first election, but that's because I left my absentee ballot at home on accident :-/
I'm definitely voting this time around!

Well that was an honest mistake. I remember voting for the last election, I was so thrilled to have been a part of such a huge election and then really upset that Dubya won :P

omg - My first thought was 'she sounds like a Malfoy' - lol. What's she going to do when the rich are the ones who start getting taxed heavily? Ah, well, she will be getting a reality check soon enuf.

I also call them Indians, yeah Chris screwed up but that's the way it is. And I'm just as 'native' to America as anyone else. And anyway, in about another 100 years we'll all look about the same & it won't matter.

Ah, but I think the Malfoys' would vote :B

Yeah, I understand. I call them Native Americans but I'm not that angry that some people call them Indians. If I seemed angry is was because I was angry with the situation in general ;D

lol - I believe you are right.

Understood. Unfortunately I don't think anything you could say would change her attitude. Do her parents have the same attitude? It's such a hard fought right it's a shame she is squandering it.

My personal favorites are "I work therefore I can't make it in time" completely disregarding that jobs are not allowed to hold it against you if you are late due to being at the polls and the fact that the polls are open for what...twelve hours? Oh, and the "I'm only one person, my vote doesn't count" and then those who don't vote who go on to bitch about things and say "I have the right to bitch because I pay taxes, I don't have to vote". People's logic never ceases to astound me...

I say, if you don't vote and you're able to, you can't complain about something you could have voted for or against. Don't vote, don't complain.

Exactly. It drives me up an m-f'ing wall. Seriously, nothing makes me more pissed than that. For instance: Dani doesn't vote (she uses the work excuse) but she never complains. The stalker girl I was friends with refuses to vote "just because" (she never really gave me a valid reason) and bitches up a storm CONSTANTLY.

I lose respect for people who don't vote. It's your right for living in a democracy (or at least a govt. that strives for a democracy). There are issues that affect everrryone. But who knows? Maybe this girl will eventually grow up and start voting.

Yes, these state measures are there to help us and by not voting, I find it a slap in the face. What gets me even angrier are the people that don't vote and then get really pissed off about something going on that they could have voted against. Example, there's a measure in CA (I hope it passes) where the gas tax money will go towards helping keep the roads in shape. If it doesn't pass and a non-voter starts complaining about how "we should do something to fix these roads!" I will not feel any sympathy for them, they could have voted to pass it!

Oy, I hope that measure passes :D

It's sad how close minded and stupid some people are...I didn't vote because I worked late and didn't get a chance to mail my ballot out...
But yea...I know excuses, excuses...:P
But still, her reasons? PURE STUPID...
Even if you ARE rich, you should still care about all people...:)

I like the fact that you have the option not to vote there, so many people here who don't care just donkey vote or end up voting for the legalize marijuana party out of sheer amusement or something. I would rather those people not be voting than messing things up.
