I was playing with my lazy rats and thought it would be a good time to whip out the ol' Powershot.

Marty has googlie eyes

Biff does as well but not so much

Exxxcellllentttt (he's channeling Mr. Burns)

My cracker!

Marty and Biff get along pretty well.

Doc is more aloof

Heh, all they did was sit there and stare at me...and brux once in awhile.

Rats are so underrated but you'll also find a dedicated group of rat lovers.
I bred rats for a few years, sweet times. Rats are amazing. They're as smart as dogs I think without the high maintenance of one. Only downside of them are their lifespans and their tendency to get tumors :\

Marty is a dumbo rat. If you look at his ears, that's where "dumbo" comes from. Dumbo the elephant. :)

Sometimes you can actually. Check your local Humane Society.

You can also look on petfinder.com and search for "Small and Furry". They're all legit animal rescues.

Do you live in an apartment or house? Keeping a rat in an apartment can be risky, depending on the landowner.

I don't l ike buying from pet stores either. However, my first rat was from a pet store before I knew better. I still don't like supporting pet stores that sell animals but I will not say I regret getting Hamlet, she was the best rat you could ever ask for.
There are reputable rat breeders out there that strive to better the health and temperament of rats. If you tell me your general location I can tell you of one or two breeders. There's also rodent rescues scattered across the country and you can sometimes find a rat in a shelter...although two rats are really better then one as they're very social.
Rats can bite, but all animals can bite (except maybe a snail). Rats are far less likely to bite then a hamster though..unless that rat has major aggression. I've gotten a few rat bites in my time, two on one finger! That finger will forever have some nerve issues. I'd be more wary of handling a hamster then a rat though, rats are usually very sweet.

If you got any other questions on rat care I can help answer questions as well as point you to rat care sites

Awwww I love their faces! So fuckin adorable! I love the one channeling Mr. Burns lmaoo. Rats are definitely misunderstood poor little guys. Everyone associates them with like, giant rats in NYC that are the size of a small dog and eat babies.

btw, I was wondering, did you ever get the package i sent you? :O
