anybody on my f-list crochet?

I don't crochet but my mom does. She's been nice to me by making me scarves and hats. She's finally finishing up a Stan (South Park) hat but can't make the poofball on the top. Is there a site that has patterns that I can show my mom? She can't figure out how to make the poofball that'll work with the crochet hat.
Also, are there any sights with crochet hat patterns? Specifically an ushanka? I really want a green ushanka but I can't find any and mom is willing to make me one :3s
If you don't know what an ushanuka is...
Actually, I might have her make me a different hat and just buy that one! :p

Ali's mad keen on crotchet, she's a member of www.ravelry.com which has patterns on I think. She's got some pattern books by 'Doris Chan', which you can find on Amazon, which she rates pretty highly.

Dunno if any of the hats on here are what you're after: http://www.allcrafts.net/crochet/crochethats.htm (free patterns)

Sadly none of those hats fit the bill. I might just end up buying that ushanka I linked to since it looks like a complicated hat to make.

http://www.coatsandclark.com/Crafts/Crochet/Projects/TV+Projects/KCT0013+His+and+Her+Hats.htm

That has directions for a pom (at the bottom of the page) - hopefully that will help.

I had very little luck on the ushanuka pattern itself, the closest I think is this:
http://cocoknits.com/knit/garments/accessories/fleecedearflaphat.html in knit and this http://cache.lionbrand.com/origpics/70097aa.jpg in crochet.
(and that was using ravelry)

Hi! I love crocheting! Making a poofball isn't really that hard. What I do is wrap yarn around and around my two fingers until it gets really thick. Then take a piece of yarn (already cut *g*) and slip it through your fingers so it goes in the center of the circle.

Next, pull the bunch of yarn off your fingers and then tie the one string of yarn super tight and tie it into a knot. Then cut the bunch of loops at the opposite side of the knot. From there, poof out the yarn so it turns into a ball. Then cut the ends until it gets to the size of ball you want.

I hope I explained it ok.

The explanation made sense to me and I don't even crochet, i'm sure it'll help my mom. Thanks! :)
